Poem, in case it's not obvious
-----------------------------
Amanda watches her Vulcan son
Lump in her throat for the tiny one
Grown to such an appalling size.
She shakes her head; tears blur her eyes.
When did he grow so tall and spare?
She watches the light as it touches his hair
Like raven's wings, she thinks and remembers
The heat of the Forge, flames and embers
How frightened she was that Vulcan would break him
When it was time for the Kas'wahn to take him
And make him over. Her volatile son
Buried his heart then, became Sarek's son
Her husband. So proud he was of his son on that day.
But Spock never knew it. Did it lead him away
From his parents? If only she'd spoken
Maybe a crack in the wall would be broken
That kept them apart, father and son.
Ah, here's the transport. Amanda's undone.
"Live long and prosper, my mother." She replies.
"Safe journey, my son. Safe journey, safe skies."
He straightens his back; his eyes seem to shimmer
As his mother watches the transporter's glimmer
And pulls up her hood, her face well hid.
He never cried. But Amanda did.
